Samsung Galaxy S6: Less TouchWiz, more security – Personal Computer Magazine

As expected, Samsung Galaxy S6 officially presented. The new smartphone will get a lot of new features, and the TouchWiz appearance is greatly simplified.

Samsung presented its new “best phone ever” at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. “Finally we do not have to listen to rumors on the Internet,” Samsung CEO JK Shin announced the phone. In recent weeks rumors surfaced regularly over the phone and leaked photos from.

Curved edge

The rumors about the phone proved largely true. The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes in 2 versions, a ‘normal’ and one with ‘Edge’. This means that the screen as it were, on both edges is folded. We saw that earlier in the Galaxy Note 4, which came in a similar variant. That was a taste for the real consumer phone that is the S6.

Globe screen

With curved edges that seems like the screen which is more convex. That looks very chic and the phone displays an expensive look, but the curved edge also has a practical purpose.

Quick

So you can at the edge fix certain actions. That may be one of your contacts, or another shortcut where you often want to access.

Solid housing

The curved edges are not the only change in the appearance that Samsung have made. The housing of the device is (finally) made of metal, which gives it some firmer. That’s a lot better than the somewhat cheap feeling aluminum S5.

Gorilla Glass 4

The device is also sturdy by the addition of Gorilla Glass 4, the latest version of the strong glass which is not only scratch resistant, but also more resistant against falls.

Security

Samsung puts the S6 also firmly on security. The devices come standard with additional encryption, and have special apps that make very suitable device for business use.

It is also striking that Samsung standard a number of Microsoft applications includes with the unit as OneDrive and Outlook.

Charging Wireless

Another addition to the phone is that you can charge it wirelessly. That is not a very new concept, also gives Samsung, but unique is that you do not need extra accessories like cases in the S6. You can charge your phone anywhere where supported wireless charging. At the moment, that’s not a lot of places, but Samsung hopes to set a new standard.

Fast charging

Not only the S6 wireless charging, but charging is additionally rapidly. Samsung says “the best battery industry ‘to have made, and has built a new way to quickly recharge. This ‘fast charging’ , according to the company ensures that the phone in 10 minutes enough that you can be charged again 4 hours can forward it.

Tocco finally simplified

One of the main obstacles to the Galaxy devices is the software skin that Samsung itself puts Android on it. The so-called Samsung’s unique TouchWiz was look , but in practice made the phones often slow and it was not intuitive. It is therefore striking that Samsung Tocco provides a major makeover on the S6.

Tighter

Who make over is’ em mainly in simplification. The menus are all a bit clearer, a lot of unnecessary options are omitted, and the whole is all there to see some firmer – in line with Lollipop Android, the operating system which runs on S6 course

<. h3> Very good camera

One of the focal points of the phone is the new camera. Which is extremely good, according to Samsung, especially in areas with low light. The camera has 5 megapixels, the rear camera has ‘only’ 16 (there was speculation that it would be 20 megapixels). Those ‘few’ megapixels, however more than offset by the F1.9 aperture on the camera, which makes him especially at night very well.

New features

The camera gets some additional useful features such as Real-Time HDR, and “object tracking that a moving object is followed by the camera.

The big disadvantage is that the camera, like the iPhone 6, very protruding from the model. That makes him very vulnerable to damage, especially if you put the phone on the table.

Samsung Pay

A unique addition Pay Samsung, Samsung’s answer to Apple and Google Pay Wallet. Unlike those competitors must Samsung Pay “everywhere” work. Google Pay Wallet and Apple should be supported by retailers, and must support NFC payment terminal. That is not necessary at Samsung Pay.

Magnetic strips

Samsung Pay needs to work on ‘any ATM where you can also pay by credit or debit card’ – practically every store so. The phone works for it with a special technique that is coupled to the magnetic stripe reader of the terminal. Unfortunately, we are now biting in the Netherlands switched from magnetic strips to chips, but anyway it will take a while for the service to the Netherlands.
