Tusk takes Dijsselbloem at mini-summit on Greece – Financieele Dagblad (Registration)

Within the Eurogroup is widespread dissatisfaction with the mini-summit that the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, together called the sidelines of the summit Thursday. Other leaders in the eurozone feel passed. To address their concerns, Tusk at the last minute invited Jeroen Dijsselbloem. The chairman of the Eurogroup can speak on behalf of all other euro countries.

Greece is in acute need of money. The Greek leader Alexis Tsipras wants about separate agreement with Tusk, President Jean-Claude Juncker, ECB President Mario Draghi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande. Tusk Dijsselbloem has now invited guests added to the list, as confirmed by his spokesman.

Guessing to Greek motifs

Netherlands is satisfied with that, but according to diplomats is not satisfactory for other leaders that they be represented by a man in his own country ‘only’ minister. The alternative, a summit of all nineteen eurozone leaders, however, was not deemed useful without thorough preparation.

It is unclear what the consultation, Thursday after dinner all EU governments should achieve. Diplomats say they have to guess at the Greek motifs. You may be trying to reach Tsipras that the ECB money tap what further open runs or € 1.9 billion profit pays incurred on transactions with Greek government bonds.

Leave Eurozone inevitable

The other euro area countries continue to insist that Athens only fresh money can get when it adheres to the agreement concluded with the end of February the Eurogroup.

No one in Brussels openly accused the Greeks of unwillingness. However, there is great concern about the slow pace, the constant personnel changes in Greek negotiators, the lack of managerial experience with members of the government and their unfamiliarity with the diplomatic process in the EU. An involuntary exit from the eurozone seems inevitable.

Juncker remains worried

“I remain very worried,” said Juncker as Wednesday after a meeting with French Prime Minister Manuel Valls. “I am not satisfied with the progress and I would like both parties to regroup.” German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said Wednesday in a tragedy. “There will be meetings, at whatever level, change nothing. It is now very tight. ”

In Brussels there is great doubt about the usefulness of a meeting at the highest political level as long as the government in Athens brakes on the technical consultation with the European Commission, the ECB and the IMF – the three institutions that previously were designated as troika. The discussions with the institutions are designed to gain insight into the content of the reform plans of the new government. They can also pave the way for the payment of last segments of the lending program.

Advice troika ignored

Within the European Commission Wednesday expressed alarm at the fact that Tsipras Wednesday, uttering the usual rhetoric against European policy, has submitted a bill to soften the effects of remediation.

According to an EU source, the Law ‘specific elements’ that go against the agreements of the Eurogroup, and this is also the Greek government made clear. “We cling our time being attached to the fact that the law has not yet been brought into effect.

Athens should last month promise it will not take action without consulting the three institutions. Reportedly, the Greek Government argues that it already meets that condition, as they set the height on the settings of its intentions.
