Households can insure themselves against flood damage again soon. The insurance company Fuego comes down again with a policy that provides coverage against damage from flooding.
This is the first time since the fifties that the damage can be fully reimbursed. After the 1953 insurers agreed to no more coverage to include this kind of major disasters. The risk that an insurer would fall, would be too great.
It was only in 2012 dared down Fuego, agent of Lloyd’s, as the first batch in order to ensure flood again. But the question that so-called catastrophe insurance was disappointing, because the coverage was relatively low (maximum 75,000 euros) and the premium actually very high. Last year Neer Fuego therefore stopped with this product.
The insurer has again investors willing to act as risk for a flood insurance. If necessary, can be paid a total of 800 million euros. The premium is determined by the insured must be less unpack since Neer Fuego uses new calculations to determine the risks. The policy is expected in May or June for sale.
Discussion
Ensuring flood damage was several years a point of discussion. The large Dutch insurers are willing to go back cover water disasters, but they think it should be in the form of a compulsory collective storage on the home contents and buildings insurance. A plan was made by the Dutch Association of Insurers was not only approved by supervisor ACM. Also, people who live high above sea level in an area where floods never occur, would call unnecessary extra cost
