Those who live near mega stables and farms with lots of chickens, pigs and cows, often have health problems. According to a study published today by the research institute Nivel IRAs Utrecht University.

By the stench say residents often cough and colds. They often suffer from dizziness, stomach pain, abdominal pain and constipation. But also by chronic stress symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety and depression are more common. “With the manure odor irritants may spread in the environment and regular odor can lead to chronic stress,” the researchers conclude.

People who live near mega stalls, assess their own health a lot worse than people who have no odor. It is remarkable that they rarely go to the doctor with symptoms.

More than 750 people participated in the study. The data on the use of health care in this group are from the electronic files of the GP practices in the area. The number of pigs, chickens and cattle within half a kilometer established with data on permits for livestock farms in the provinces of North Brabant and Limburg
