Greece can not claim an amount of 1.2 billion euros previously by the euro countries was put aside for the support of the Greek banking sector. That reported the British newspaper Financial Times today following a dialogue between policy makers from the euro countries.

Greece considers that the disputed amount last month was wrongly returned to the European rescue fund EFSF. According to other euro area countries, however, no question of that. A spokesman for the EFSF said that the matter can be reconsidered. A reversal, however, must be approved by the finance ministers of the euro countries, making any agreement for a long time may be delayed.

Greece is hard to find money. The Greek government this month end needs some 1.7 billion euros to pay salaries and pensions and early next month must repay 450 million euros to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Without new funding from the eurozone threatens the country do not meet those obligations.

Help Loans
The next disbursement of the promised aid loans remains as long as the euro countries do not convinced of the will of the new Greek government to continue with the agreed reform of the Greek economy. To avoid immediate financial need, the Greeks want to spend more short-term loans. According to insiders, the European Central Bank (ECB) thwarted that plan.

The ECB would have banned Greek banks have to borrow more money to their government. Greek banks are more or less the only buyers of Greek bonds, while they themselves are kept afloat with emergency support from the Bank of Greece. Which would thus indirectly finance the government’s own

In addition, the ECB fears that banks are entrained as the Greek government can not solve its own financial problems
