He wrote Saturday in a letter to news agency Bloomberg . The prime minister will soon come to a deal with the European countries that paid the emergency.
According to the news agency Tsipras thereby attempts to improve relations with its creditors and to find support for his economic reforms.
“The talks with Europe have just started,” said Tsipras. “There are differences of opinion, but I have confidence in a solution that is good for Greece and Europe.”
After the Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis Friday refused to stop cooperation with the IMF, the European Commission and the ECB, there was panic in the financial markets. The Athens Stock Exchange went hard down.
Tsipras moderate his tone, especially since the aid program expires at the end of February. If no deal is concluded the country is forced to borrow on the capital markets at high interest rates, which would not be an option for the new prime minister.
Nevertheless, he is counting on leniency from Europe, where part of Greek debt is forgiven and the reforms are more moderate. “We need a breather and introduce our own recovery program for the medium term,” he said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier ruled that Greece’s debt is written off.
