SYRIZA forms coalition with right-wing party in Greece – NU.nl

That’s party leader Panos Kammenos of Independent Greeks said Monday after a meeting with SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras.

The party Kammenos Sunday won thirteen seats.

Tsipras is Monday officially sworn in as new prime minister of Greece. At a ceremony at the residence of the Greek President Karolos Papoulias Tsipras vowed that he will represent the interests of the Greek people.

Cuts

Both Parties of Tsipras and Kammenos, oppose the cuts that the European Union has imposed on Greece, but strongly disagree on social issues. The right-wing party turns fiercely against illegal immigration.

Independent Greeks does point out that the cuts the troika of EU, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund has imposed on the country.

Three days

Tsipras had three days to form a government. His party won according to the latest counts 149 of the 300 seats in parliament. That’s two too little for the absolute majority.

It is the first time since the fall of the military dictatorship in

1974 that a Greek government comes without the conservative New Democracy and Socialist PASOK. The two sides have the last four decades dominated Greek politics.

Samaras

If Tsipras would have failed to form a government within three days, was sitting Prime Minister Antonis Samaras came on the turn. His New Democracy ended with an estimated 76 seats in second place
