Anton Barske, the mayor of Gorinchem ( GroenLinks), yesterday submitted his resignation. Reason “the sharp deterioration in administrative and political relations” in the city on the Upper Merwede. Writes the municipality in a press release.

The bad relationships ensure that driving Gorinchem Barske no longer “a positive contribution” to provide his “professional life”. Barske, which since April 2013 was mayor, gives no further explanation.

Against RTV Rijnmond councilors agree that friction existed for some time, though there would be no pressure exerted on him to leave.

The coalition in Gorinchem coexists with the party which is a member of Barske, GL, from SP, VVD, CU / SGP, and D66. Opposition party CDA tells Rijnmond do plan to have been to submit a censure motion because the talks on regional cooperation went smoothly.

Many municipalities in the region cooperation Alblasserwaard / Vijfheerenlanden currently talking about merging. This could lead to snow under the existing cooperation while merger talks of Gorinchem himself with the surrounding municipalities early this year are stranded. The city threatens to remain alone. Barske as mayor was responsible for cooperation.
