Bank of England examines consequences exit from European Union – NU.nl

Bank of England (BoE) has confirmed that after an internal mail to The Guardian had fallen.

The mail was written by the secretary of Jon Cunliffe, one of the deputy governors of BoE.

An employee of the press service of the Central Bank, the mail accidentally sent to the British newspaper. The e-mail states that the investigation must remain confidential for the press.

The British people may express itself by the end of 2017 in a referendum on whether the country should remain in the EU or have to step out. That the newly re-elected Prime Minister David Cameron promised.

Ahead of the referendum he is negotiating reform of the EU and the British position within the EU. Then the British people as soon Cameron really has to choose.

In a statement on his website says BoE that it was “no surprise should be that the bank does research on specific government policies.”

“There arises a set of economic and financial issues within the framework of the renegotiation and the national referendum. It is a responsibility of Bank of England to investigate matters relating to our objectives,” the statement said.
