Absenteeism is far too easy in the Netherlands – nrc.nl

When employees themselves insure failure by non-work related illnesses and sick to be activated earlier than employers dare even earlier staff assume, believe VVD MP Anoushka Schut-What Are.

The Central Planning Bureau (CPB) recently indicated that a reduction of the sick pay – from the current two years to one year – the taxpayer 900 million euros will cost. The reasoning: there will more people rely on a pension from the government

It is likely that these CPB by account does not work in favor of employers.. Now they bear the majority of the burden of disease and disability. Yet it is vital that fairer burden: otherwise there will be unnecessary people on the side who want to work but whose employers would bear no risk

These risks are simply too great.. Think of an employer with four employees, who must pay by one sick employee not only wages, but also the reintegration must facilitate and provide replacement – which leads to doubling of the premium for that one function. I therefore urge Minister Asscher (Social Affairs) to continue with the VVD think how we could reduce the burden on employers. We should not be afraid to lay more responsibility themselves for sick employees.

The Netherlands with Finland, Poland and Slovenia the highest absenteeism rate in the European Union. That’s because there are too few incentives built in to resume work. People do not feel it here in their wallets when they stay at home more ill than necessary.
