The profit from Philips, despite the strong dollar, declined in the quarter compared with the same period last year. This is due to the higher investments in particular the medical division, reports the technology at the presentation of the quarterly figures.

However, the sales of Philips rose by 14 percent to 5.3 billion euros, thanks to favorable currency effects. Be in addition, it will remain a sales growth of about 2 percent. Operating profit decreased from 253 million to 240 million. Remaining 100 million euros, against 137 million a year earlier. CEO Frans van Houten expects a “modest” increase in sales in the coming year.

Last night came the results of Apple’s outside. What turned out despite all the attention for the Apple iPhone Watch is still popular. The results surpassed analyst expectations for the first quarter. Apple sold more than

61 million iPhones, accounting for more than two-thirds of the 58 billion in revenue. It formed a large part of the profit: 13.6 billion.

As expected decreased sales numbers compared to the previous quarter – the month of December, gift month – but the number of 61 million iPhones sold, an increase of 40 percent compared to the first quarter last year. Other products played a smaller role: revenues from Mac computers rose by 2 percent to 5.6 billion, the iPad sales decreased by 29 percent to 5.4 billion. Thus, the decline in sales of iPads is continued steadily.

And the Apple Watch? Figures on the new watch are not yet known, because the sale began last month, but analysts estimate that there are about 2 million have been sold. A great number, analysts say, but not huge.
