5 questions about freelancers, assistance and pension – Yahoo! News

A new pension scheme for self-employed people on welfare. They no longer only their own pension pot to “eat” to be entitled to social assistance. Five questions and answers.

1. How does it work now?
The first to be looked at when you get the assistance, is how much people earn. Then we look at equity. That equity must first arise, before you get a benefit. Although the new law only goes into next year, the government has put on this year extra money aside. There is more than 40 million set aside to help freelancers requesting assistance.

2. What was the problem?
Last year there was much ado about freelancers who wanted to apply for social assistance. The municipality of Enschede would require first aid applicants to eat on their own piggy bank. After much criticism from among others Klijnsma State Secretary for Social Affairs of the municipality of Enschede drew the plan again.

3. Why social assistance for freelancers?
The assistance is meant for people who do not have sufficient own income or assets and not eligible for another benefit. Everyone is entitled to it, including freelancers. The argument that this should be at the risk of freelancers, this does not go on.

4. Is this important?
It is a fundamentally different view of our social system. We now have 800,000 self-employed and are just more. Social safety nets, as well as our pension system is still not there furnished. Therefore, the municipality of Enschede could also require freelancers first had to eat their own pension pot. So yes, it’s important. Our labor market is very different than say 20 years ago, all social services to be adjusted there.

5. What are the consequences for the pensions of self-employed?
It is constantly said that freelancers build too little pension. Argument is that they have too little money for it. But according to experts, there is also a group of people who can best put aside money, but not now dare. After all, if they need assistance, they still have to eat their pension pot. This new legislation will change that. What you save for your retirement always remain yours.
