Harvesting strawberries at a record high in 2014 – NU.nl

Most of strawberries come from glasshouses and plastic tunnels. Exports nearly 60 percent of the strawberries.

This is evident from figures published Monday by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

About 23 million kilos of Dutch strawberries we eat itself, partly fresh, partly incorporated into cakes, desserts and preserves. The remaining 30 million kilograms is exported, mainly to countries in Europe.

Forty percent went to Belgium in 2014, 15 percent in Norway, 15 percent in Germany and 10 percent in the UK.

To export value measured in the strawberry has become one of the most important horticultural vegetables from Netherlands, after the tomato, pepper and cucumber.
