That’s Shell on Thursday.
Shell wants from this summer with two platforms perform drilling in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska. Recently, the US authorities have given conditional clearance for the test drilling.
It is expected that many billions of barrels of oil can be extracted. According to Shell, the drilling is essential to its energy supply in the future assured.
Resistance
The plans of the oil company encounter, however, strong opposition from environmental organizations. They are afraid that something goes wrong during drilling and unfolding environmental disaster.
Protesters have campaigned for weeks in the port city, where Shell collects the fleet. They are there not agree that the Polar Pioneer rig moored there.
With boats, kayaks, sailboats and canoes they were the Elliot Bay in Seattle ascended. The protesters carried signs with “Shell no” on it. They tried to block access to the platform.
It is not yet clear when the Polar Pioneer momentum toward Alaska. Activists expect it to happen this week
