Watch Sales USA to nadir by Apple – Telegraaf.nl

The number of watches sold in the US was in June in seven year not so low. It is a first sign that getting the watch market blows from smart watches, such as the new Apple Watch.

This writes Bloomberg, based on data from research firm NPD Group. In June, sold at retail in the amount of $ 375 million in watches. That was a decline of 14%, the largest since 2008.

According to Fred Levin, head of research in the luxury segment of NPD expects Apple Watch can receive a substantial market share. “The next few years will be difficult to fashion watches.”

Especially watches that cost less than $ 1,000 suffer from competition by Apple, Levin said. “Consumers who normally buy in this price range, most frequently state that they consider an Apple Watch.”

But the latest gadget from Apple is not the only cause of declining sales. Cheaper watches are more often been praised by retailers because the market is highly saturated. “These brands have to think very carefully about their strategy,” said Levin
