Consumers’ reports’ misleading nutrition claims’ in NVWA – NU.nl

This was reported by the Consumers Monday.

Supermarkets are in accordance with the Federal filled with foods that say ‘high in fiber’, to be ‘low fat’ or ‘high in vitamin C’. Manufacturers arouse these nutrition claims to consumers the wrong impression, says the association.

In the surveyed supermarkets Consumers came across two types of abuse of nutrition claims. “As manufacturers try to make products better or wrongly appear healthier than similar products,” said Bart Combée, director of Consumers Union. “For example, ‘source of fiber’ to create a gingerbread while all ordinary gingerbread is naturally a source of fiber.”

Combee: “And let manufacturers consumers to believe that their unhealthy products really healthy are, for example ‘with B vitamins’ to put candy or pretzels chips using the claim ‘source of fiber’ “
