IMF asks again for debt relief for Greece – NU.nl

On Friday, finance ministers were of the eurozone (Eurogroup) agreed on a new aid package for the ailing country. Greece may borrow for the next three years 86 billion in exchange for tax increases and spending cuts.

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde late in a statement to be happy with the agreement, but warns that the Greek debt is still unsustainable be.

She thinks the country needs a significant debt relief, “much more than what has so far been taken into consideration.” She is convinced that Greece fails to achieve financial health on its own

Eurogroup President Jeroen dijsselbloem made Friday during a press conference clearly that no Greek debt be waived. But according to a correspondent of the British news BBC want to consider the ministers in the autumn or part of the Greek debt yet to be amortized.

The IMF is considering taking part in the support program. Among others the Netherlands, it is crucial that the IMF is involved. The IMF will have until October to determine whether the 16 billion euro will contribute to the program
