RIVM warns of serious smog – Telegraaf.nl

In many parts of the country again on Saturday severe ozone smog expected. According to the National Institute for Health and Environment (RIVM) it is the highest ozone levels in the last decade. The expected concentration may cause symptoms in everyone, even in people in good health

except Smog can irritate the throat, nose and eyes, cause coughing and shortness of breath. In people with respiratory diseases can worsen symptoms. Strenuous exercise is discouraged in the air.

Thursday RIVM warned of serious smog and advised people to stay indoors with respiratory symptoms in the afternoon and early evening. In many parts of the country were high ozone concentrations.

Smog ozone produced when large quantities of pollutants in the air, such as nitrogen oxides. The polluting substances are under the influence of sunlight converted to ozone. Days with high ozone concentrations are often warm days with high sun radiation and little wind from the southeast
