Weather fewer cars on the road – Telegraaf.nl

THE HAGUE –

Oldtimers disappear more and more from the Dutch roads, since the tax exemption for old cars is drastically reduced. Early this year counted the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) almost 300,000 cars 25 years or older. There were about 14,000 fewer than a year earlier, it was announced Thursday

.

In particular, diesel and LPG cars 25 to 40 years old driving fewer around. The number of old cars will, for the second year in a row. Before that came annually oldtimers in each.

The decline, according to the CBS mainly to do with tightening up the rules on road tax. Until 2012 cars were 25 years or older are fully exempt from road tax. As of January 1, 2014 only cars older than 40 years still completely free road tax. This makes it less attractive to have a vintage car and more is exported or destroyed.

The number of cars that appeared at least 40 years ago for the first time on the road, it is still increasing. Beginning in 2015 this number was 122,000, 8,500 more than a year earlier
