The acquisition of the Dutch delivery company TNT Express FedEx may still encounter objections from Brussels. The European Commission is concerned that there is too little competition remains with the deal, and is therefore a “thorough investigation” started.

If FedEx and TNT merge, there remain three major companies which international packages delivered to Europe . In addition to FedEx that it is also American UPS and DHL Germany. To make sure that prices for consumers and business customers will not rise, the commission will carry out more extensive research.

An exploratory study show the committee that there may be too little competition remains in a number of markets international express items and sending small packets to outside the European

Union. The committee stressed – as is common – the fact that a thorough investigation has been set does not mean that the conclusion will also be that there remains little competition.

Two years ago was the acquisition of TNT by UPS still part by the absence of green light from the European Commission. In announcing the merger in April showed TNT and FedEx, however, know that “good chance” that the deal succeeds it now.

According to the parties, there are really only two really big parties in Europe ( DHL and UPS) and there is the acquisition of 4.4 billion euros in third. CEO David Bronczek time:

“So there is more competition, as the committee wants. That is good for the customers “
