The plans for the wind farms come from the Energieakkoord. Therein, the government has with the business arrangements are made to achieve environmental benefits with wind power.
The Dutch wind farms are soon to be the largest in Europe. In 2023 they should be built. Together they generate plenty of power for a total of 5 million households. On the whole of the Dutch energy demand is, however, still modest. According to information from the government in 2023 more than 3 percent of all energy generated by wind turbines at sea.
What is the cost of the development is, however, fast. In total, the government’s 18 billion euro has been earmarked for wind farms at sea. But the total cost to the government, seem to come at about 6 billion euros, a huge saving.
The wind farm from Shell and its partners is much cheaper, but also Borssele 1 and 2 of the Danish Dong, which is almost 3 billion cheaper than first thought. This is according to minister Kamp, the cheapest wind farm in the world.
Greenpeace is in a reaction elated. "The spectacular reduction in cost of wind at sea but, just as wind on earth and the sun. Good news for the fight against climate change and more reason to now by to address: the planning of an additional offshore wind farm”, says a spokesperson of the environmental organization.
The construction of five new wind farms also means many new jobs. Said earlier the ministry expected that the manufacturing, construction, research and associated policies, together, will lead to 10,000 new jobs.
