KLM and its pilots have reached agreement on pension – NOS

KLM is no longer at odds with its pilots about the plan. The airline attracts the unilateral termination of the pension agreement, and will again next year with the Association of Dutch commercial pilots (CNS) to the table to see if a new pension fund is required. For the time being, the existing arrangements of power.

KLM put earlier this year a point behind the pension agreement with the pilots, because the agreed additional payment into the pension fund the business at risk. The additional payment would, according to the airline, amount to approximately 600 million euro.

Lawsuit

The Association of Dutch commercial pilots (CNS) argued that the additional payment of a few hundred million euros would amount to. The pilotenvakbond went to the court because it was of the opinion that KLM is the pension agreement, not unilaterally allowed to terminate, but the court did not agree.

The works council of KLM harnessed then a case against the management board of KLM, as they say was not involved in the design of a replacement pension fund. In that case, the court ruled that KLM is not a new pension fund may be set up without the involvement of the works council and the pilotenvakbond.

KLM and CNS have now reached agreement on the amount of the additional payment into the pension fund. That amount is lower than the KLM expected 600 million euros. With that knowledge, the pension agreement will be restored. Or, in time, of a new pension fund for the pilots, with any bijstortingsverplichting or ‘dowry’, the two parties next year to decide.

Confidence

“this step comes to an end to the uncertainties regarding the pensions for pilots and I am confident that it will result in good cooperation to the further growth of KLM can work”, says KLM-ceo Pieter Elbers.

The pilotenvakbond see the agreement on pensions as a first step to restore confidence between the airline and the pilots. “Pilots and management can build a strong KLM and the joint focus on the evil outside world to focus instead of internal discord reign supreme to perform”, says CNS chairman Steven Verhagen.
