A Dutch study into dieselschandaal at Volkswagen – NOS

The Authority Consumer and Market (ACM) to start an investigation into the dieselschandaal at Volkswagen. The ACM wants to know if Volkswagen consumentenregels has violated. In the Netherlands there are around 160,000 cars sold that much more nitrogen oxide emissions than was promised.

The Consumers ‘ association had the ACM a few months ago asked for such research to start. According to the bond, it is absurd that in the Netherlands, nothing was taken against Volkswagen. “This is very good news”, responds Bart Combeé, director of the Consumers ‘ association. “With a decision of the ACM is easier for consumers to make the car manufacturer liable.”

That is also the main argument of the ACM to the investigation. “We have now established that for the consumer is difficult to have the right to pick at Volkswagen, we have therefore decided to start an investigation,” says spokeswoman Saskia Bierling of the ACM. “By the violated rule can be a fine of € 450,000 to impose.” How many rules may be violated, the ACM has not yet say.

Also, the authority is still figuring out who exactly is held accountable. This need not be the Volkswagen group itself. “That can also be the importer of these cars in the Netherlands,” says Bierling. The Dutch Volkswagen importer, Pon says to have taken notice of the ACM-research, but does not. The ACM hopes the study within half a year.

In the autumn of 2015 had Volkswagen admit that the worldwide about 11 million cars had been sold with so-called sjoemelsoftware. That software made sure that the cars at the admission test met the emissions standards. Once on the road the software off and jolts the car a lot more harmful substances.
