Analysis: lonely christmas for Air France KLM Telegraaf.nl

Jean-Marc Janaillac, the new ceo of Air France-KLM, these days dysfunctional under the christmas tree. In november he presented his strategic plan, including the launch of a new 'low-cost' airline in 2019 should go flying, the core is formed. After some protests from trade unions, it is almost quiet around the Dutch-French airline.

A silence that is not positive, because in the last weeks is the consolidation in the global aviation a step further. And this battle seems to be out of Air France KLM to take place.

    Brisket

The beef in this is that Etihad, the Arab partner of the carrier, a shareholding of 10% are considering in yes: Lufthansa, the main competitor of Air France KLM. And, according to the weekly Der Spiegel would Etihad-owned subsidiary of Alitalia, nota bene ever subsidiary of KLM, the Germans offered in this deal. Painful for the Dutch and the French, Alitalia ever saw as a third branch of the tribe in the luchtvaartcombinatie.

    Low

Although ceo James Hogan of Etihad according to sources, no longer allowed to invest by the government of Abu Dhabi and on the way to the exit, it would be this scenario, the final end of the relationship between the Arabs, Air France and KLM. This was on the back burner because the top of the Dutch-French airline openly of the the state aid to the Arab competition criticized.

    Three blocks

So there are three blocks, in which Qatar Airways and the parent company of British Airways go together, and in addition, the large Lufthansagroep with Etihad. Emirates is not yet a partner on the long distances and fly, but works modest together with EasyJet.

Air France-KLM is in the list. By the stop due to the lack of reforms seems to be the airline and the boat are going to miss and lonely to remain behind. With as a child of the account of KLM, that is growing, but is stuck in the combination with Air France .
