The organizations of the rural Open azc day speak of a successful day. In total, there were about 36.000 people at the event, organised by the Dutch Refugee council, the Immigration and Naturalisation service, the Repatriation and Departure Service and the Central agency for the reception of asylum seekers. This is reported in RTV Rijnmond.

In more than seventy centres for asylum seekers, those interested could take a look and they did so in abundance. Last year there were 15,000 visitors to the then 38 existing asylum seekers'centre. This year was the day for the second time organized. Visitors were able to receive guided tours, of course, have a chat with residents and there were organized activities such as old-Dutch games.

In the Netherlands, more than 100 asylum seekers'centres, but these were not all open, due to security reasons. For example, some reception centres, which were hotly protested by the residents, such as the asylum seekers ‘ centre in the Groningen village of Oude Pekela.

The day is not organized to opponents of the asylum seekers’centre to convince that their vision is wrong. “It’s not about for or against. Normally, asylum seekers’centres are not just accessible because of the privacy, once a year, we want to show how it goes", says Jan-Willem Anholts of the COA.
