Greenhouse gas emissions rose by five per cent in 2015 – NU.nl

In 2030 the emission of European klimaatdoelen 40 percent teruggedrongen compared to 1990. The emissions came last year 12 percent lower compared to 1990, reports the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Monday.

The increase in 2015 was partly caused by power plants verstookten more polluting coal and less gas. Even more gas in 2015 was burned to heat homes and offices than in the previous year.

CO2 (carbon dioxide) is disregarded, greenhouse gas emissions since 1990 has decreased by 50 percent. In 2014 after there is more CO2 each year than in 1990.



Urgenda case

In addition to the European climate targets, the government has also to take into account the outcome of the proceedings Urgenda CASE last year. The judge in that case ruled that the Netherlands does too little to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and that 25 percent of emissions in 2020 have decreased compared to 1990.
