The municipality would like the vacancy rate of dwellings in the city harder to tackle. Up to now, especially the vacancy rate of offices contested, but given the pressure on the housing market, is that extended to residential homes.
Homeowners should, as the new rules come into effect, the municipality has to report if their property longer than six months, empty state. If this is not done, there follows first a discussion. If there’s no good reason for the vacancy is given, a fine can be imposed.
For private owners is that fine of 2,500 euros, for professional landlords five thousand euros. In the extreme case, the house can be allocated to someone else.
Alderman Ivens warns, however, that the Vacancy “complex and complicated”. He hopes that the national rules be changed so that the combat of vacancy is easier to combat. In november decides the city council about the new rules. The regulation may, if it goes well on november 1 this year in force.
