Swiss vote massively against basic income for every citizen – NU.nl

According to Reuters from exit polls show that 78 percent of the Swiss voted against it for voice. Polling in Switzerland closed at 12.00.

Supporters of the basic income had collected more than 100,000 signatures to allow the referendum.

An action committee calls for a basic income of the equivalent of 2,200 euros per month in the form of some kind of benefit, without having to be there a counteraction to come.

The rejection the basic income does not come as a surprise. Proponents argued that a basic income would better guarantee human dignity, now under pressure through automation and job loss associated therewith. But according to the Government is way too expensive the plan and does not contain the right incentives for the labor market.

If the Swiss had voted for legislative changes needed to be made.

A plan to speed up the asylum process have received the support of the majority of the Swiss electorate. They also gave the green light to genetic research on oocytes and embryos, albeit under strict conditions
