Number of unemployed falls further in May – NU.nl

This reports the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Thursday.

The CBS last month counted 560,000 unemployed persons, which is 6.3 percent of the workforce. In April figure was 572,000 and 6.4 percent.

The number of unemployed over the past three months fell by an average of seven people per month. Compared with May 2015, there are 57,000 unemployed less.

The UWV end of May had 448,000 unemployment benefits. In the first five months of 2016 219.000 new unemployment benefits were issued by the authority, 12 percent less than the same period last year. The decline was evident in almost all sectors.



25-plus

The unemployment rate among people aged between 25 and 45 years falling for two years in a row. The number of unemployed in this age group totaled 169,000 in May. Also among people over 45 years the number of people falling out of work, there were 233,000 in May.

The number of

unemployed young people (under 25) is the last months remained virtually unchanged and came out in May at 158,000.



Paid work

The CBS noted that in the Netherlands, 12.8 million people aged 15 to 75 years. Of this amount, 65.7 percent in May, paid work, nearly 8.4 million people. It is thereby to nearly 4.5 million men and 3.9 million women.

The more than 4.4 million people aged 15 to 75 do not have paid work. Of these, so 560,000 unemployed and 3.8 million people are not looking or are not immediately available for work
