Belgian airline VLM Airlines asks bankruptcy – NU.nl

Earlier in the day VLM had invited the unions for emergency consultations.

They reported earlier on Wednesday though that the cloth is finally fallen for the airline company, which already longer is in financial difficulties and the end of May of the court had deferred payment.

VLM bases in Antwerp and the southern German Friedrichshafen. From there, with a fleet of Fokker-50 flights are offered to a handful of destinations in Germany and England.

The Dutch branch, which only flew between Rotterdam and Hamburg, was last autumn already defunct. Thus 75 people lost their jobs. Currently, the airline still about one hundred and fifty people on the payroll.

VLM was founded in 1993 and focused on regional flights between the UK and England especially to business travelers. In late 2007 the company

was taken over by Air France-KLM, which brought under one roof with the Irish regional carrier CityJet.

Air France-KLM sold CityJet in 2014 to the German investor Intro Aviation, which specializes in the ‘refurbishment’ of aviation companies with problems. VLM was privatized and sold to its management
