Belgium is blocking agreement on tax evasion – NU.nl

The Belgian Minister Johan Van Overtveldt could not agree with the part of the bill that interest deduction limited by corporations.

Belgium, Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who is leading the negotiations, given the time until Monday midnight to determine its position.

According to Van Overtveldts spokesman Belgium worried that it praises from the market as it introduces measures before the OECD, a grouping of 34 industrialized countries to commit to the same requirements.

The country offers companies include so-called notional interest deduction allows companies to deduct a notional interest of their profits. From Overtveldt was whistled back to the Belgian capital.

Dijsselbloem remains optimistic. “We come from a time when we meet heavy competed with tax regimes. Now we need to completely change our behavior. I think everything else settled. I hope that the deal Monday can be settled.”

Fiscal shopping

the measures must ensure that companies operating in different EU countries convenient to use the different rules in the 28 Member States, little or no tax to pay. The new directive assumes that a firm pays tax in the country where the profits are made.

The legislation

also applies to subsidiaries of companies based in the EU. Ministers have agreed that interest and royalties from subsidiaries in tax havens’ should be taxed in the country where the parent is liable.
