Especially cereal and milk are Dutch lost less than many other Europeans, 10 and 7 percent respectively. Meat contrast here is 11 percent more expensive than the EU average. Also, alcohol and tobacco in the Netherlands are relatively expensive.
Especially in the south and east of Europe’s food and drink cheaper than in the Netherlands. Poland takes the cake with prices 37 percent lower than the EU average. Romania follows closely with 36 percent lower food prices.
Danes, however, are the most expensive. They charge in the store 45 percent more than average for food. Swiss and Norwegians pay moreover even more for their daily fare, but these countries do not belong to the EU.
In Germany, Europe’s largest economy, food prices are 3 percent higher than average. Belgians and French pay 8 and 9 percent for the investigated basket of groceries, British 11 percent
