Services prices increased significantly faster than goods since 1996 – NU.nl

The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) calculates Wednesday that the prices of services in the last twenty years have risen almost twice as fast as that of goods. On average prices in the Netherlands between 1996 and 2016 increased by 45 percent.

Leisure Services, such as a visit to a theme park or museum, on the other hand have become 72 percent more expensive.

Also Rents rose sharply, by 75 percent. This is partly related to the cost of labor. Labour costs are a major cost, which increased by 72.3 percent for services providers.

Tobacco and cars

The prices have become among other higher because the government has stepped various taxes and duties, including VAT in 2001 and 2012 and the excise duties on tobacco and motor fuels. The energy went, the insurance tax and the tax on new cars up.

For new cars have 35 percent more to be spent, but used cars are a quarter cheaper. The price index of technology products such as televisions and computers also declined.

Although services harder than goods increased in price, there are exceptions. Services in communication, such as telephone and Internet services, for example, have become a quarter cheaper over the past two years
