Great consequences it would have, it was feared that chaos on the track around Utrecht as operators of their train would leave. But it turns out all along to drop this Wednesday, the day of the big meetings in Utrecht. The travelers have no problems: the more than 160 drivers and conductors who are, have freely taken, had all leave or wait until they are with their service going to start in the evening.
Diversity
Major point of discussion was the variety in the work of the operators – the fear of the circle to the church – but that was not the only one, as it turns out. The attendees complain about lack of opportunities to go to the restroom, to short keertijden for trains, too little regard for the safety of the railway staff, and staff on the trains. Also, there was dissatisfaction about the board: this would be to do little with the complaints from the staff.

These are the biggest concerns, according to the train drivers and conductors.
- Too little time to pee and eat it
With the new service is tried to connect and transfer times, as tight and short as possible for the traveller. That means that the drivers and conductors on these trains that themselves have little time to take a break, or to even train to get ready for the subsequent ride. “Very short time”, says one of the attendees Tuesday. “If I say: I need to go to the toilet, it is said, then you need to run!” That is not the only result of the tight schedules. “As I am about the drive loop with a transfer time of five minutes, I don’t have time to ask all of those answered,” says another driver on the spot. “We are still, for the traveler, not for NS?”
- staff on the trains
another common complaint is about the lack of personnel on the trains. Especially in the evenings in the weekends to see the drivers and conductors prefer two hoofdconducteurs instead of only one on the train, also because the safety of the personnel and the travellers. In some cases, there is absolutely no hoofdconducteur on the train. One of the present conductrices: “I would like the safety to be secured. And not only in the evenings and on the weekends, I notice it also on a Sunday morning after going out Saturday night: I can with that whole gajeszooi in the train only to leave. I have a feeling to be brushed aside."
- Bad maintenance on equipment
Filthy, noisy cabins, poor maintenance, mold in the air conditioning, and hobbelbaanvakken – and the associated health problems for hips and knees: the staff hopes that something is done. Not only because of the traveler, but also for themselves.
Late in the evening, you will as a traveler, perhaps brands and going to the toilet you can in some trains but better, but also the staff in the trains is not satisfied. During the meetings talked about cleaners with a bucket of water the whole train must: whether it is clean, is the question.
- Lead NS to few involved
The booing, geapplaudiseer and the mass use of the well-known NS-whistle at the start of the meetings it does: there is considerable dissatisfaction amongst the existing operators and conductors in the direction of the board which according to them is not fast enough to get started with the problems indicated and does not seem to listen to criticism.
next Steps
More than 160 drivers and conductors were this Wednesday, the board was also represented. Nanouke van ‘t Riet, director of service & operations, ensures the attendees to get started with the problems and bottlenecks. She has among other things ensured that after July of this year, two hoofdconducteurs instead of one will ride on trains in the evenings of Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
