ASML breaks to re-record, and probably not for the last – NOS

Chipmachinefabrikant ASML continues to grow. Last year the company sold again for a record to chipmachines. The turnover amounted to almost 6.8 billion, 508 million euros more than in 2015.

The machines of ASML are used by large technology companies like Intel, IBM and Samsung to memory – and rekenchips to produce. The machines cost approximately 60 million euros a piece, and sometimes up to 100 million, and many tens of thousands of pounds of heavy.

Chips in cars

The demand for chips continues to increase. More and more devices are connected to the internet and by the advent of self-propelled cars, there are even more in the future chips.

“That developments in the car industry go very quickly,” says ceo Peter Wennink. “You have, for example, driver assistedcars where fast chips are needed. In a few years, the car industry is the industry where they are the most advanced chips need.”

New machine

For faster and more efficient chips, ASML’s a new kind of chipmachine developed, the EUV machine. There is years of work and is a 7 billion euro of development costs were spent. The new generation of chipmachines costs 100 to 120 million euros per piece. The development is still always.

For ASML is exciting to see if those machines actually catch on and customers will be decreased. With a number of customers, the machine all but runs on 80 percent of the capacity. The intention is that the chipmachines tuned and within two years at full capacity.

100 nationalities

The company reports that there is now for these systems, eighteen orders with a value of 2 billion euro. Wennink is satisfied with that number. “We are paid to be in these machines to believe, but it’s about whether the customer’s believe in. The most important of 2016 was that customers now have said, ‘ this is going to be.”

Earlier, said the ceo the expectation that the sales of ASML within 4 years to 11 billion is going to increase as the chipmarkt continues to grow. To the growth, ASML last year, 1600 new people hired. At ASML now employs 17.500 people with 100 different nationalities.
