The 81-year-old Aad van der Not would prefer to never stop working. As long as it can, he will parcels continue delivering for a courier service. Still, he gets the proposal from trade union FNV to the retirement age more flexible and less likely to rise. “A lot of people would have longer to work, but physically it can often not. Masons, for example, that is not nothing though.”
Aad went when he was about 58 to take early retirement, but once at home, this did nothing for him. “You need me, not behind the geraniums, then I get only quarrel at home. I need to busy to continue. In itself amused me happily in the garden and with my boat, but I wanted to work again.”

In total, he was seven years at home, because until the age of 65 he was not allowed to work because of the benefit. “I also got often the control is on a visit,” he adds. As soon as he could he went back to work.
I find it ridiculous that the higher age just is imposed.
Willem Heijdacker
Willem Heijdacker (62) works as a process operator at a waste disposal. He works in shifts, which is rather cumbersome. It demands the work is also physically a lot from him. Willem would also like the choice of want to be able to stop. “I find it ridiculous that the higher age just imposed, without any possibility to go for
The retirement age should be flexible and less likely to rise, says the FNV. The trade union wants, especially those with demanding occupations previously may stop working. But in principle, the plan is for everyone, because the bond is too complicated to determine what is and is not a heavy job.
He is therefore in a working group of the FNV; AOW flexible. He has worked on the proposal submitted to the government. “It’s important in this is that everyone has the choice itself must be able to create,” says Heijdacker.
“The one may just be longer than the other. For example, We do a margin of four years and four years above a specified age. Then people can judge when they want to stop."
Not everyone can continue as long as I, then there must be flexibility to to stop.
Aad van der Not
Despite the fact that Aad is still not want to stop work, he stands behind the comments on the AOW pension age. He also has years of tough, physical work done within the fisheries and groundwork.
He praises himself lucky that he never had any physical symptoms. “Unfortunately, it is a given and the other not. Not everyone can be as long as I and then there should be the flexibility to to stop it.”
