Ahold reports higher sales and profits – NU.nl

The results thereby improved in all markets where it recently merged with the Belgian Delhaize supermarket group is active.

Ahold reported Thursday a turnover of 9 billion euros in the second quarter. That was 3 percent more than the year before.

The operating profit was adjusted for non-recurring items, by more than 7 percent to 355 million euros. Net profit improved by 7 percent to 209 million euros.



US

In the United States, the largest market for Ahold, sales declined by more than 2 percent to 5, 5 billion. Sales in stores for more than one year are open thereby fell by more than 1 percent, excluding gasoline. Ahold thus knew its market share to increase in the US, both measured in sold items as in dollars.

In the Netherlands was transformed nearly 5 percent more than EUR 3 billion in the second quarter of 2015. The last of year comparable sales grew by 3 percent, both by growth in the supermarkets and online. Cuts also meant a higher profit margin on the domestic market.



Delhaize

Ahold completed last month off its

merger with Belgian supermarket company Delhaize. That company saw its operating profit, adjusted for exchange rates, increased by 12 percent last quarter to 247 million euros.

“We are well on our new chapter as Ahold, Delhaize started, ” said CEO Dick Boer. ” We look forward to Ahold, Delhaize to further shape. ”

Synergies from the merger contribute in the second half of the year expected to be 30 million to the operating profit of the merged company. Those benefits should end by mid 2019 amount to 500 million euros per year. At the same time brings the amalgamation probably 350 million in one-time costs involved.
