Substantially more patents applied for by Dutch companies – NU.nl

Dutch companies were 7,100 applications at the European Patent Office (EPO), an increase of 3.3 percent. The number of applications is thus considerably higher than the average European increase, which amounts to 0.3 percent.

This is evident from the Thursday presented annual report of the EPO. Netherlands from Switzerland is in second place when it comes to the number of patent applications per million inhabitants. 2014 Netherlands was third and fourth the year before.

Philips asked the world’s most patents (2402) and thus allows Samsung, the number one of 2014 behind him. Also, LG, Huwaei and Siemens are in the global top five.

In addition, Philips also companies like DSM, Shell, NXP, ASM, Unilever and Akzo / Nobel high prices. Applications in the field of medical technology remained the most popular, followed by digital communications and computer technology

Regions

Regionally, most patent applications are made in England (48 per cent), then in South Holland (16.3 percent) and Limburg (15.9 percent). The strongest increase in the number of applications was seen in the province of Flevoland, an increase of 54 percent.

Outside the Netherlands, the majority of applications in addition to the Netherlands from the United States, Germany, Japan and France. The strongest growth among international applications is accounted for by the United States and China
