Money contributes to happiness, but health and job are more important – Focus on News

the vast majority (87 percent) of Dutch adults say they are happy. Only a small group of 3 percent find themselves unhappy. The remaining 10 percent is not happy, not unhappy. The share considers himself lucky is fairly stable over the years

Money plays a role

Money plays a role in experiencing happiness:. The higher the income, the higher the perceived happiness. So says 6 percent of respondents to be unhappy with the lowest incomes and 16 percent “not happy, not unhappy.” At the highest incomes is that 1 and 6 percent.

The differences have to do some other factors such as health, education and having a relationship. If that is taken into account, the differences in happiness between income groups are smaller. There is no difference in happiness between the first and second income group, nor between the third and fourth group. The differences between different income groups continue to exist.



Strongest relationship between health and happiness

Health is more important for happiness than income. People who feel healthier happier. 95 percent of the people who label as well their health claims to be happy. Among those who feel that their health is bad or very bad, that’s 54 percent.



Partner and socializing strong correlation with happiness

Also, having a partner plays a major role with feelings of happiness. Dutch as a couple find themselves more happy than people who do not have a partner. Social contacts are also of interest. In particular the frequency with which people contact their friends have strongly depends on the experience of happiness. There is also a correlation between having a job and feelings of happiness. Of people in paid employment is 91 percent happy, compared with 81 percent of those who do not have paid work.
Sex, age, highest educational attainment and level of physical barriers also play a role in experienced happiness, but less than the previously mentioned characteristics.
