Greece and its lenders have “considerable progress" to the country financially and economically, back on track. That said eurogroepvoorzitter Jeroen Dijsselbloem after he convened urgent consultations Friday in Brussels with the Greek minister Euklides Tsakalotos (Finance).

According to sources in Brussels, the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) jointly proposed a package of measures that should lead to a budget surplus of 3.5 percent (excluding the repayment and interest) in 2018 and thereafter.

to achieve that would be Athens even for mid-2018, when the current support programme of € 86 billion to expire, 1.8 billion euros extra must be cuts. Also then there is 1.8 billion

euro extra in the pensions and taxes are included.

Noteworthy

The proposal is remarkable because the EU and the IMF for months, arguing about the approach of the Greek crisis. The Greeks want to now, not to capture on begrotingsafspraken after 2017.

Dijsselbloem is expected now that the delegation which checks to see if Greece is to the agreed-upon reforms (IMF, European Commission and European Central Bank) next week to Athens. For the past few weeks, the negotiators are no longer welcome, which the utility falters.

In July, Greece is required to make a payment and repayment of 7.5 billion euros.
