PostNL takeover by Belgian Bpost Job – NU.nl

“TNT confirms that the conversations had with Bpost about a possible combination of the two companies through a friendly tender offer for all shares by Bpost TNT”, the company has announced Sunday. “These conversations have eventually failed to reach agreement on the terms of such a transaction.”

One of PostNL spokesman, however, said Sunday evening that a bid was not the case.

Friday transpired that Bpost was interested in TNT. Belgian business newspaper Time reported that Bpost a first bid is made for all PostNL shares.

March 25, the share was about 3.62 Euros worth. The first bid was rejected and PostNL did not appeal a second bid. A third bid would be studied now, the newspaper said on Friday.

“It’s good that both companies have provided clarity”, Ger Deleij reacts union FNV. “That prevents many unnecessary unrest among the employees of TNT.”



Surprise

According to Time is the cancellation of the deal as a complete surprise. “Earlier on Sunday seemed to be the acquisition of the Dutch postal company by Bpost still in the bag,” the newspaper writes.

“The communication with the approval of the Belgian Government was expected any moment. In the weeks that followed, there should be a final agreement between the two postal operators. ” The deal would be scuppered at the last minute by the board of TNT.

Bpost would have received the blessing of the Belgian government. Those with a stake of just over 51 percent of the largest shareholder, but has in Le Soir plans to sell a part of it. a merger or acquisition is politically sensitive because of the possible impact on employment.
