This makes industry association ACEA said Wednesday.
There are in that month 669 395 vehicles put on license. This growth followed a sales increase of 5.6 percent in July.
According to ACEA is thus maintained the positive trend that began a year ago. Over the first eight months of this year, the European car sales by 6 percent to 8.3 million vehicles.
In all major auto markets during this period was some growth, with sales up 1.6 percent in France and 2.6 percent in Germany.
But in the Netherlands decreased sales since the beginning of this year by 5.4 percent to 255,000 cars. In August there was a contraction of the Dutch car sales by 9.1 percent.
The best-selling car brand in Europe in the period January to August was Volkswagen with more than one million cars. Renault came in second place with nearly 570,000 cars, followed by Peugeot with just under 511,000 vehicles.
