Airbnb: more stringent rules, not New York per se, also in Amsterdam – NOS

Verhuursite Airbnb wants new, stricter rules that the company itself is proposing for landlords of apartments in New York, not necessarily in Amsterdam, to enter. That, says the company in response to questions from the NOS.

“Every city is unique, so a one size fits all-approach will not work. We want each city’s individual approach, we want to be good partners of Amsterdam will continue and are in discussion about how we got our cooperation.”

Hotline

In response to an imminent ban in New York, Airbnb itself a series of measures for the city announced. From 1 november, Airbnb-landlords only have one property to rent out. So is the big commercial parties with multiple addresses difficult to use the site to operate.

Also offers Airbnb to landlords to register with the government and the company wants to have a hotline where residents 24 hours a day with complaints. 40.000 addresses

In New York, the most important market for Airbnb in the US, the company is embroiled in a fight on life and death. The parliament of the state of New York has a new law was passed, making renting apartments via Airbnb prohibited will be. But it is not yet so far, because the governor of the state, Andrew Cuomo, has yet to decide whether or not the act signing. Only then is the law of force and Cuomo has until 29 October, is the time for his decision.

There are over Airbnb in New York City, more than 40,000 hotel rooms and apartments rented to tourists. If this is prohibited, is considered a major defeat for the verhuurgigant that a few years ago, a start-up.

More money

Critics in New York and elsewhere say that through Airbnb more and more apartments cannot be used for habitation, but that there are tourists all year round to stay because that earns more money. According to Airbnb provides the vast majority of the landlords in New York, 96 percent, though only one address on average for 47 nights per year.

Or the more stringent rules of Airbnb enough for governor Cuomo to a line by the anti-Airbnb-law, in the coming days to clear. He has not yet spoken.
