Fewer flights delayed or canceled quarter – NU.nl

This is evident from figures published Wednesday by EUclaim, an organization that helps travelers victim claiming damages.

In the first months of 2016 strikes by French air traffic controllers caused a lot of problems. Also found traffic in the Netherlands affected by the attacks on the Brussels Zaventem Airport on March 22 and the heavy storm on Easter Monday in particular ravaged the British Isles.

A total of 634 flights were canceled and there were 477 delayed by three hours or more.

However, that did not compensate for the effects of the major power failure that Schiphol struck on March 27, 2015. The airport was then in addition to four days with stormy weather, making the schedule became upset again. Last year EUclaim counted in the first quarter 1212 cancellations and 483 severely delayed flights.

The majority of the incidents, moreover, the existence of force majeure and airlines did their customers no compensation to pay. This applies for example to extreme weather or other circumstances which the carrier has no control.

The number of incidents in which passengers are eligible under EUclaim indeed for compensation, fell from 575 to 487.
