As in previous periods, the number of subscribers grew strongest outside the United States, a net 4.5 million. But at home there were net 2.2 million subscribers. Netflix thus exceeds expectations; the company was expecting ‘only’ get to 6.1 million.
Netflix launched in the first quarter of 2016 in 130 additional countries and now has worldwide total of 81.5 million users. Of them now come 42 percent from abroad. A year ago, the streaming service had 62.3 million subscribers worldwide.
For the current quarter, Netflix considerably less optimistic. The company expects to continue to grow, but at a much slower pace than in previous periods. Worldwide, the company foresees an increase of 2.5 million subscribers, of which one-fifth in the US.
Netflix posted revenue of $ 1.8 billion (1.6 billion euros), nearly 30 percent more than a year earlier. Net income came in at $ 9 million, up from $ 24 million a year earlier
