THE HAGUE (Reuters) – The Nigerian subsidiary of Shell will pay 55 million pounds (70.2 million euros) to compensate for the damage that was caused by oil spills at Bodo Nigerian village. That made the oil company announced on Wednesday.
Shell approved in August 2011 to have been responsible for two oil spills at Bodo in 2008. The damage is compensated by 35 million pounds, the remainder will benefit the entire community. The money will be paid by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), in which Shell has a 30 percent interest.
