“We all agree that the accessibility of Schiphol better, “said CEO Jos Nijhuis yesterday in his speech at Schiphol East. “The main port is waiting for an additional, direct public transport connection with Amsterdam. The North / South line must be drawn. “

Access
The airport will thus prevent accessibility at risk. Both the number of travelers (55 million last year, 4.6 percent more than in 2013) as the number of employees at Schiphol companies increases year after year.

The capacity of the train tunnels under the airport in the foreseeable future, sufficient for the supply and transport of passengers and employees, evidenced by last year’s forecast performance. This also has to do with security: in case of emergencies the underground train can not be cleared in time. Schiphol already preparing a new above-ground public transport hub, in the square for Schiphol Plaza.

Growth Continues
A solid North / South line must go through a detour South Station to conduct the Schiphol airport because the expansion of terminals and piers, which is currently being finalized, did not take into account a new tunnel under the airport. The metro line would have to come to that reason in the tunnel under the Buitenveldertbaan.

The last year booked Schiphol 438,000 takeoffs and landings, 3 percent more than in 2013. If growth continues at that pace, the airport is over five years at its maximum number of flight movements of 510,000 Schiphol therefore wishes this year the expansion of Lelystad airport procurement
