the average age at which young people leave home and live independently between 2006 and 2016 increased from 23, 6 years to 24.6 years. Reported CBS.
Both younger and older adolescents will later live on their own. In 2006, lived 85 percent of 18 year olds at home and it has grown to 88 percent in 2016. Among the 24-year-olds, the percentage living at home during this period from 32 to 36 percent. Youth set the date they leave the parental home, and moreover return more often. Young people between 18 and 28 years have stayed longer at home, only for the 20-year-olds living at home increased by less than 2 percent.
Nearly 1.1 million dwelling youths 2016
in 2006, the Netherlands had 951 thousand people aged 18 to 30 who lived with their parents. This group is a net 143 thousand people grew to bijna1,1 million young people in 2016. Just over 46 percent of this growth is due to a population increase. The remaining group, net 77 thousand people joined the students living at home longer because they continued to live at home or returning back to their parents.
Young men stay longer live at home than young women. It is a relatively small difference in 18-year-olds, but this increases with increasing age. The 24-year-old young men live 45 percent with their parents, compared with 28 percent among the young women.
