Ahold and Delhaize stores sales in US – Elsevier

ZAANDAM (Reuters) – Ahold and Delhaize sell a total of 86 US supermarkets to get approval for their proposed merger. That made Ahold Thursday.

The shops are located in areas where Ahold and Delhaize Belgium are both active. With the sale hoping to get both companies permission from the US regulator FTC for their merger. The FTC investigates the effects of the merger on the US market at present and needs to shed some light on the measure now.

Ahold and Delhaize carry the now announced sale only if they can actually merge. The companies reiterated Thursday the expectation that the merger this month can be completed.

Overlap

The mega merger between Albert Heijn owner Ahold and Belgium’s Delhaize has announced the end of June last year. The merger creates operate a business with over 6,500 stores in Europe and the United States, where approximately 375,000 employees more than 50 million customers.

The companies believe their merger to save money include purchasing – and overheads. Geographically, the companies hope to strengthen each other especially in the United States. Both Delhaize and Ahold operates on the east coast of the country, but they have only a few states overlap.
