AMSTERDAM –

Connexxion goes from the third quarter of this year driving around with their own street taxis in Amsterdam. That Bart Schmeink, CEO of the transport company, said Wednesday on BNR radio

The new project, whose name is not yet known, is similar to the banned taxi service UberPOP. “It is certainly no regular taxis where you as taxi will be waiting in a pile until someone,” said Schmeink. “The intention is that the project will then be rolled out nationwide.”

Schmeink is positive about the plans of Secretary Wilma Mansveld who wants to relax rules for the taxi industry. “I’m really positively surprised. I think it’s a lot more opportunities for new innovations that Uber also shows us wider to enter into the taxi world. The traditional taxi product that we have now, or the traditional public transport, the coming years will therefore disappear “
